We know that a bee sting is exceptionally painful. While it’s rare for the bee to sting humans, many Americans are stung each summer season when bee numbers are at their highest in communities across the country. Our team at Advanced Urgent Care has significant experience dealing with bee stings, and we’re highlighting the diagnosis and treatment of bee stings in this new blog.

The Symptoms of a Serious Allergy

When most people experience bee sting they find a small pinch of pain is the worst of their symptoms, others have an allergic reaction which can be fatal in some cases. Our team at Advanced Urgent Care has treated a number of allergic reactions to bee stings, and we’re hoping to educate others on the importance of urgent care when signs of an allergic reaction are present. The signs of a bee sting include:

  • Pain
  • Burning
  • Redness
  • Swelling

The signs of a more serious bee sting allergy include:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Severe numbness
  • Rapid swelling around the eyes and/or throat
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach cramps
  • Loss of consciousness

The Diagnosis Phase

If you or someone you love experiences any of the more severe signs of a bee sting allergy, you must find your way to an urgent care facility such as Advanced Urgent Care. Our team will conduct a number of tests to diagnose the bee sting allergy. These tests include:

  • Blood test

We’ll test the blood of the patient to look for the signs of the IgE antibodies, which suggest a reaction to a bee sting. These antibodies show the type of reaction and will highlight the type of insect that caused the reaction, allowing for more effective treatment.

  • Skin test

In some cases, we’ll also conduct a skin prick test, which involves pricking the skin and introducing low doses of venom to test for a reaction. The results of this test show the scale of the impact on the body and the track the venom took in the initial reaction, helping speed up treatment.

Our team at Advanced Urgent Care offers high-level treatment for bee sting allergies. Call today to learn more about treatment options.
