With the rise of online healthcare, it has never been easier or more convenient to see a doctor. Connecting with a healthcare practitioner from the comfort of your own home is an amazing way to stay on top of your own health, while also avoiding many of the risks associated with going into a doctor’s office during the Covid-19 pandemic. There are a few things to consider however before diving into your virtual health visit- first and foremost, what platform should you use? Read on for some more info on two of the most popular platforms-Teledoc and Doctor on Demand.

Doctor on demand

Pricing

Perhaps the largest difference between these two popular online platforms is the payment plan. Teledoc operates on a subscription service model- similar to Netflix or Spotify. This means that you pay a monthly fee and have access to as many appointments per month as necessary. In contrast, Doctor on Demand operates on a pay-per-visit model, meaning there is a standard fee for each visit with a healthcare practitioner.

Platform

Both platforms are similar in nature and can be accessed on either a desktop or phone (although desktop is recommended for better video quality). The apps for both services can be downloaded from the Google Playstore, and you will need audio and video access for your visit. Make sure to also bring a pair of headphones to get the best sound quality!

Talking to a doctor

When it comes to your doctor visit, there are a few distinct differences. In both services, you will be asked to describe symptoms and given a potential diagnosis. However, Doctor on Demand physicians try to simulate an in-person exam through a more extensive virtual exam. You will be asked to open your mouth, pull down your eyelids, check for sinus pressure, etc. With Doctor on Demand, there is also a visit timer displayed on your screen so you can keep track of how long your physician visit is.

Follow-Up

If you’ve opted for Teledoc, after your visit you will receive a message recapping your diagnosis, provided access to the doctor’s notes from your visit, and also sent an email if there are any prescriptions for medication. With Doctor on Demand, you will be provided access to the documents page from your visit, and you will also be able to access your visit history.
